PLAYING PC-FX GAMES ON YOUR WINDOWS PC:

PC-FX emulation on modern PCs is fast and easy. The only downside is, that the majority of emulators today no longer supports the playback of physical game discs. Fortunately there's an easy solution to this problem, so getting your PC ready to play physical PC-FX discs will only take a few minutes.

The original guide by SEEDI can be found here.

REQUIRED DOWNLOADS:

There are four pieces of software required, which you can download right here.

DOKAN creates a virtual file system from any physical discs inserted in your optical drive. Download is available here. We tried this particular version on a number of different PCs. Should you have troubles installing this version (depending on your Windows version), you can find newer versions of Dokan for download directly on their github page.

SEEDI for Windows provides you an easy to use graphical interface to tell your PC which emulator to launch after identifying a PC-FX disc in your optical drive. Download is available here.

MEDNAFEN is the emulator you will use to run PC-FX games on your PC. Seedi is able to download the emulator for you, but it will grab on older version. The newest version is available on the Mednafen Github page right here. Download is available here.

And eventually you need a PC-FX bios file, which you can grab right here.

CONFIGURATION:

Follow these easy steps to get your PC ready for playing PC-FX discs.

Install DOKAN by unpacking the installer and double clicking on it. Unpack both the SEEDI and MEDNAFEN archive files to folders of your choice. Place the PC-FX bios file into Mednafen's firmware folder (if you folder does not exist yet, double click on the Mednafen executable once and it will create the necessary subfolders for you).

By starting WinSeediForms.exe in the Seedi folder, you can configure the required launch options and point Seedi to the location of your Mednafen folder. If you got multiple optical drives, also make sure Seedi is looking for the correct drive letter.

As long as SEEDI is running in the background, it will monitor your optical disc drive for any physical disc you insert. Once it detects a PC-FX discs, it will launch the Mednafen emulator and run the game you just inserted...

Once the emulator has been launched, you can press F1 for basic help or you can refer to Mednafen's PC-FX documentation page right here. You will have to start with configuring your controls. Mednafen is a complex emulator with LOTS of options, but it's also very well documented.
